| Bluebell Wood was designated as a Site of Interest to Nature Conservation (SINC) as part of the East Hyden Wood SINC. Although this does not give as much protection as other designations it does mean that councils have to take it into account when looking at planning proposals.
The woodland is also within the East Hampshire and Winchester Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty AONB, and within the boundary of the proposed South Downs National Park. This means that the woodland has much higher level of protection and any planning application has to be looks at in much more depth.
